The Anglocatholic Church

Dear brothers in the Episcopate,

In this time of grace, allow me to wish all members and faithful of the Anglocatholic Church a happy birthday for the three years of its foundation. In a world where Christendom seems to be slowly dying out, God in his great goodness has cast his eyes on our new family by allowing through his Holy Spirit, gradually an expulsion through the continents, which gives us great reasons for hope.
First of all, I want to express my gratitude to our beloved Patriarch, His Beatitude Heigo, for his wisdom, his humility, his understanding and his ability to gather. Does not Church mean assembly?
Among the difficulties and misunderstandings I faced in the past, entering the Anglocatholic Church was an oasis of peace, and I never thought that it was still possible to find Church, who is also understanding and at the same time, who follow the dogmas consistent with the Holy Scriptures and the tradition and teaching of the first Fathers of the Church. This time, I found my house.
“There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and among all, and in all” says Paul in the Epistle to the Ephesians, (Eph 4: 5-6)
Thus, united in this same communion of faith, although we are scattered, we are one, although our ways and customs are different. But we have the same vocation to serve, to transmit, to teach for the salvation of souls, and to bring comfort, if need be, to every person in suffering. In a word, it means: to love. That’s good, that’s what Christ asks us: “This is my commandment:” Love one another, as I have loved you. “John, 15, 6.
Let us continue our momentum, so that the Holy Spirit may continue to breathe in the Anglocatholic Church, to promote and dispense the word of God, to allow us to attain purity of heart and to remain united.
Next Sunday, February 24th, let’s all be in communion for the celebration of this event.

En ce temps de grâce, permettez moi de souhaiter à tous les membres et fidèles de l’Eglise Anglo-Catholique, un joyeux anniversaire pour les trois ans de sa Fondation. Dans un monde, où la chrétienté semble s’éteindre à petit feu, Dieu dans sa grande bonté a jeté les yeux sur notre nouvelle famille en y permettant par son Esprit Saint, petit à petit une expansion à travers les continents, ce qui nous donne de grands motifs d’espérance.

Tout d’abord, je veux exprimer toute ma reconnaissance à notre bien aimé Patriarche, Sa Béatitude Heigo, pour sa sagesse, son humilité, sa compréhension et sa capacité à rassembler. Eglise ne signifie t-il pas assemblée ?

Parmi les difficultés et les incompréhensions dont j’ai eu à faire face dans le passé, l’entrée au sein de l’Eglise Anglo-Catholique fut un oasis de paix, et jamais je n’aurais penser qu’il était encore possible de trouver une Eglise, qui soit aussi compréhensive et en même temps, qui suivent les dogmes conformes aux Saintes Ecritures et à la tradition et l’enseignement  des premiers Pères de l’Eglise. Cette fois, j’ai trouvé ma maison.

“Il y a un seul Seigneur, une seule foi, un seul baptême, un seul Dieu et Père de tous, qui est au-dessus de tous, et parmi tous, et en tous” nous dit Paul dans l’Epitre aux Ephésiens, (Eph, 4, 5-6).

Ainsi, unis dans cette même communion de  foi, bien que nous soyons éparpillés, nous ne faisons qu’un, bien que nos us et coutumes sont différentes. Mais nous avons la même vocation de servir, de transmettre, d’enseigner pour le salut des âmes, et d’apporter le cas échéant réconfort à toute personne dans la souffrance. En un mot, cela signifie : Aimer. Cela tombe bien, c’est ce que le Christ nous demande : “C’est ici mon commandement : Aimez-vous les uns les autres, comme je vous ai aimés.” Jean, 15, 6.

Poursuivons notre lancée, afin que le Saint Esprit ne cesse de souffler au sein de l’Eglise Anglo Catholique, promouvoir et dispenser la parole de Dieu, pour nous permettre d’atteindre la pureté du cœur et de resté unis.

Dimanche prochain le 24 février, soyons tous en communion pour la célébration de cet évènement.

Lecture du Livre d’Isaïe
Is. 44, 1-5
Et maintenant, écoute-moi, Jacob mon serviteur, Israël que j’ai choisi. Ainsi parle
le Seigneur qui t’a fait, qui t’a façonné dès le sein maternel et reste ton appui : Sois
sans crainte, Jacob mon serviteur, Israël que j’ai choisi. Je répandrai l’eau sur ce
qui est assoiffé, des ruisseaux sur la terre desséchée. Je répandrai mon esprit sur ta

Lecture de l’Epitre de Paul aux Ephésiens
Eph. 4 . 1 – 7, 13 – 21
Moi qui suis en prison à cause du Seigneur, je vous exhorte donc à vous
conduire d’une manière digne de votre vocation : ayez beaucoup d’humilité, de
douceur et de patience, supportez-vous les uns les autres avec amour ; ayez soin
de garder l’unité dans l’Esprit par le lien de la paix. Comme votre vocation vous
a tous appelés à une seule espérance, de même il y a un seul Corps et un seul
Esprit. Il y a un seul Seigneur, une seule foi, un seul baptême, un seul Dieu et
Père de tous, au-dessus de tous, par tous, et en tous. A chacun d’entre nous, la
grâce a été donnée selon la mesure du don fait par le Christ, jusqu’à ce que nous
parvenions tous ensemble à l’unité dans la foi et la pleine connaissance du Fils
de Dieu, à l’état de l’Homme parfait, à la stature du Christ dans sa plénitude.
Alors, nous ne serons plus comme des petits enfants, nous laissant secouer et
mener à la dérive par tous les courants d’idées, au gré des hommes qui
emploient la ruse pour nous entraîner dans l’erreur. Au contraire, en vivant dans
la vérité de l’amour, nous grandirons pour nous élever en tout jusqu’à celui qui
est la Tête, le Christ. Et par lui, dans l’harmonie et la cohésion, tout le corps
poursuit sa croissance, grâce aux articulations qui le maintiennent, selon
l’énergie qui est à la mesure de chaque membre. Ainsi le corps se construit dans
l’amour. Je vous le dis, j’en témoigne dans le Seigneur : vous ne devez plus
vous conduire comme les païens qui se laissent guider par le néant de leur
pensée. Ils ont l’intelligence remplie de ténèbres, ils sont étrangers à la vie de
Dieu, à cause de l’ignorance qui est en eux, à cause de l’endurcissement de leur
coeur ; ayant perdu le sens moral, ils se sont livrés à la débauche au point de
s’adonner sans retenue à toute sorte d’impureté. Mais vous, ce n’est pas ainsi
que l’on vous a appris à connaître le Christ, si du moins l’annonce et
l’enseignement que vous avez reçus à son sujet s’accordent à la vérité qui est en
Jésus.

La couleur liturgique pour la messe est le blanc. En plus de la célébration de
cette fête, ce Propre peut être utilisé pour la célébration d’une messe votive
offert en action de grâce pour le ministère de cette église et pour son
accroissement dans le monde entier selon le bon plaisir du père.
La deuxième collecte, secrète et post-communion pour le patriarche peut être
dite.
Le plan du Seigneur demeure pour toujours, les projets de son coeur
subsistent d’âge en âge. Heureux le peuple dont le Seigneur est le Dieu,

On February 1, 2019, by the decree of His Beatitude, The Most Reverend Dr. Heigo Ritsbek, MA, MDiv, DMin, LittD, DD, Patriarch of The Anglocatholic Church, The Oratory of Saint Edward the Confessor of The Anglocatholic Church (Canada) was established. The Oratory is led by His Eminence, The Most Reverend Dr. David Smith, BMus, MMus, DD Summa Cum Laude, Patriarch Coadjutor of The Anglocatholic Church and The Primate of All North America of The Anglocatholic Church.

We are thankful with the clergy and faithful of the Church of Our Lady and Saint Basil for the best service possible of His Eminence Patriarch Coadjutor Dr. David Smith at that particular parish in Toronto, Canada over more than ten years.

Greetings in the Name of the Lord.
Truly dear brother, you are that faithful and wise servant that the Lord
has made ruler over his house. Truly you are of the generation of those
who seek the Lord and have received blessings from his hand. Truly you
are a Priest of God Most High after the Order of Melchisedech,
chosen to offer before Him a pure and spiritual sacrifice.
The Lord our God has laid the foundations of his holy Church upon the
solid rock of the apostolic confession and has laid upon his servants her
Bishops the gift of the five talents. Truly may you say ‘ Lord, You
delivered unto me five talents : behold, I have gained beside them five
talents more. ‘

To you and to God Almighty the Anglocatholic Church owes a debt of
gratitude for your witness in our midst, for your love of the Gospel of
Jesus the Christ, and for the joy that you have brought to all that you
have met in the course of your ministry.

May your retirement be a blessing to you and your family. May your
continued witness be a shining example of a pastor who has modelled his
life after that of the Good Shepherd.

                By the Grace of God, we celebrate the Third Anniversary of The Anglocatholic Church this year of the Lord, Anno Domini 2019. Our Communion is very young, very young. But the teaching and the liturgy and the Principles of church government are going back to the Early Church.

            We may honestly ask the question – why there is a need for such a young representation of these teachings and values and liturgy and Principles of church government for a three year old communion? Are not there communions which are centuries old having them already and we may be part of them? Why have something new in this twenty first century?

            If we recognize and require the Apostolic Succession, why to emphasize this through a new communion? Here we reach to the key issues, that Apostolic Succession is not a magic thing of the laying of hands by bishops. The Succession that Bishops give to the new Bishops has to be giving to the new generations all that which came from the Apostolic times. If it is not Apostolic, then we cannot talk about the Apostolic Succession.

            At this time of history of the Christian Church, there are two Principles, which are for us the „red line“. Certainly these are seen very well, but actually they go to deeper theological truths among many Christian communions. And then we see that these our “red lines” actually are much more deeper as with the first glimpse. These „red line“ isuses are – non-acceptance of female clergy and gay clergy. At first it seems to be a small issue of ministry – but actually, if we had accepted these non-scriptural and non-traditional understandings (i.e female clergy and gay clergy), then actually we had thrown away sacramentology of the Holy Scriptures and of the Apostolic Tradition; also we had thrown away ecclesiology of the Bible and the Early Church.

            Are we the only „right church“ in the world? No. Absolutely not. We recognize fully a lot of communions, most definitely Roman Catholic Church, Orthodox Church, several Eastern churches and among Old Catholic and Anglican bodies churches many, which cling to the Holy Scriptures and the Apostolic Tradition. But we are one younger brother among these above mentioned communions.

            We are a small body: thirty one bishops with more than two hundred priests and two hundred deacons in over 100 parishes in 25 countries of the world with 22,000 faithful members. But at the same time I want to emphasize that the question is not so much in it, what is our membership number, but how much we actually are „the salt of the Earth“.

            One of the key-questions of every denomination is the reason for existence which involves clear understanding who we are? What is our mission? In what sense are we different? As mentioned above, this is not the question how or why are better – but is the DNA of our communion.

            I have been asked several times, theoretically speaking, if there were in the world a communion with exactly the same theology, liturgy, moral theology, church polity etc., what would we do then? And my honest answer would be – then we enter into negotiations to merge with such a church. Our existence is not for that, to keep our ecclesiastical positions. At the same time we do not need to have changes in our DNA only for that, to be in communion with somebody or to merge with another communion.

            In the 21^st century it seems that our challenges are in sexual ethics. Yes in this too, but they grow out from our basic theological groundwork. Do we believe every line of the Creed? Do we believe the Holy Scriptures as the Word of God? Do we believe the liturgical and sacramental nature of the Church? Do we believe in Holy Trinity? And so on. It is very sad to see, how in many churches around the globe all scriptural truths and Early Church values are disappearing very quickly like snow in spring.

            This all had more general beginning during Humanistic times from fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. When the center of the Universe was not God anymore, but a human being. And that is why now we may be surprised, why all basics of Christianity is turned upside down.

            To live in a human-centered world, it is very clearly seen that humanism is the biggest enemy to the Christian theology and to the Church. Every church or communion which wants to be “humanistic” in whatever way, loses its firm Christian roots. It is no need to name all these activities, which are called some people, who wear the name Christians, what they do or believe. Our task is not to be judges, God is judge. But at the same time the teachings of Jesus and the Early Church and the Apostolic Tradition are giving us light where to go and what to follow.

            And who gives now Agenda to the Church? Many Christians think that the world around us, the people around us, a human being. This makes life for many serious and dedicated Christians very hard.

            As mentioned – we are not the only place where to hide from humanistic plagues, but at least one place among others. And in this we see also our mission and reason for existence.

            If somebody asks – what is the mission of The Anglocatholic Church? Then our answer is very simple, it is in the words of Jesus – “All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:18-20).
